A typical lunch break for learners in Ole Nkuya was picking up their jerrycans and heading to the dried-up river about a kilometer away to dig scoop holes and collect water for use in the school – drinking, cooking and to clean the classrooms, offices and toilets. This was also the main water source for all the villages surrounding the school meaning that some had to walk for over 3 hours to collect water.
