At Lekanka, water access was entirely through vendors. This made water expensive and inaccessible for most families and the school, especially during dry spells. Learners frequently brought small containers from home, but these were inadequate. The school lacked functioning toilets, and girls especially suffered due to the absence of menstrual hygiene support. Handwashing facilities were absent, making disease prevention nearly impossible.
